Plans for the long-awaited Grantham Southern Relief Road have been given the go ahead – and work is likely to start during 2015. The application, by Lincolnshire County Council, was approved with conditions by South Kesteven District Council on Tuesday and includes a near 3 kilometre link road from the A52 Somerby Hill to B1174 [...]
The shop front scheme, which is piloting in Grantham Market Place and Westgate is just one of a number of important initiatives SKDC is introducing to encourage more people to visit our towns and help new and existing businesses to thrive.
Station Approach is a highly desirable 5.3 hectare redevelopment opportunity immediately adjacent to Grantham railway station and the East Coast Main Line and occupying a highly visible “gateway” position on the southern edge of the town centre.
|Office||11,415 sq m|
|Business Innovation Centre||2,240 sq m|
|Hotel||3,812 sq m|
|Retail||1,565 sq m|
The site is located within half a kilometer of the historic market place which has recently received over £1.5 million investment to enhance the local environment. A new pedestrian boulevard will link the station providing a pleasant walk to the town centre. A new public transport inter-change will feature in the plans providing an enhanced experience for passengers arriving by train.
A number of alternative land uses have been identified in a Development Brief adopted by South Kesteven District Council as Supplementary Planning Guidance which was formally adopted in July 2010.
A conditional Planning Consent permission was granted in March 2012 for a mixed use development to include high quality office and business incubation space, residential and retail uses and public realm.
The land is currently in mixed public and private ownership.
The site is comprised of two planned phases: the first phase of c.2.2 hectares comprises the land immediately adjacent Wharf Road. The second phase of development is subject to on-going negotiations with land owners and it is anticipated that, in the current market conditions, this land is unlikely to come forward in the short term.
